Work experience and practical skills are a big part of the course. There are opportunities to go on work placements for a short period or for a whole year and you’ll learn methods used by the world’s leading researchers.
In the first year you’ll study two or three subjects, examining social issues from various points of view. In the second year you choose a major and a minor subject which you’ll study for the rest of the course. These are the subjects:
- Education, Culture and Childhood
- Human Geography
- Physical Geography
- Social Policy
- Urban Studies
Throughout the course, you’ll get training in the quantitative and qualitative methods of social sciences research. You’ll learn how to present research findings and data in a variety of formats.
