In line with the Teaching and Examination Regulations, students who have not obtained a Flemish degree will need to pay an application fee of 50 euro for each application. The university makes NO exceptions for scholarship students or for students who meet the programme’s academic requirements.
Enrolled students will pay the tuition fee minus the application fee of their specific programme. This means that if you enrol after a positive application, the tuition fee will be reduced with the application fee. Paying multiple application fees will not automatically reduce your tuition fee.
Please note that additional costs for the bank transfer are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
Undergraduate diploma (or higher)
Academic Bachelor’s degree in Geography or equivalent.
!NB The master’s programme presupposes a broad basic knowledge of the natural and social sciences, as well as a broad introduction to geography.
The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English.
Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.
If your documents are not in English, French or Dutch they have to be officially tranlsated (by a sworn translator) into one of these 3 languages
It is required that you send verified copies of the entry qualification documents directly to the university by postal mail. Important! Never send original documents by post!
TOEFL minimum level:

The Master of Geography programme is a two-year advanced study organised by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the K.U.Leuven.
The programme provides a deeper understanding of geographical problems and methods, knowledge to augment the theoretical debate within the discipline, and training in the use of geographical research techniques.
The Master of Geography training programme is designed to:
- offer students an in-depth training in a number of key geo-disciplines, by an in-depth exploration of the knowledge acquired as part of the Bachelor training programme;
- teach students advanced methods and techniques to collate and analyse spatial data, to study and model fundamental physically and culturally determined processes, which help to explain the physical and social environment;
- enable students to acquire an in-depth understanding of one specific geo-discipline (geo-sciences, urban studies, geo-information science, landscape architecture), covering a clearly defined segment of the geo job market.
You can choose between the three specializations offered:
- Earth and Climate
- City, Society and Space
- GIS and Spatial Modelling
Undoubtedly there exists a growing demand for competent professionals in the broad field of the geo-sciences. As a graduate from the interuniversity programme, Master of Geography, you may be recruited by
- mapping agencies
- surveying companies
- service and utility providers
- public entities
You will also be placed high on the recruitment lists of national and international administrations which deal with urban and rural land-use planning, disaster management, environmental.
