The MA in Global Media Management at Winchester School of Art (WSAgmm) is designed to bring together the analytical and practical skills required to succeed in communications and media management roles in international public communications.
WSAgmm is the MA in Global Media Management at Winchester School of Art. WSAgmm takes ‘mobile’ as its central question. We believe that the biggest contemporary challenge facing media managers is mobile: what it is, how it works, how people use it and how organisations can manage it. The modern media manager has to manage messages and conversations; technologies and networks; people and places. In a mobile networked world, each of those takes on new dimensions. WSAgmm helps you map that space and develop strategies to manage it.
WSAgmm studies the latest research on global-mobile or ‘mobal’ cultural practices – the ways communities use ‘mobal’ media and are used by state and corporate interests. We look at selfies and subjectivity, surveillance and sousveillance. WSAgmm explores the global technologies that structure ‘mobal’ media, and that you will have to manage. We look at apps and APIs, software and standards.
WSAgmm investigates the new forms of content that can work in a ‘mobal’ world. We interrogate micro language and ‘mobal’ publishing, conversations and ‘content relationships’. We believe that by the end of the course our students have the analytical, strategic and practical understanding necessary to steer an organisation’s mobile media management development.
