Overview
Set within a School of Architecture and Design, this course focuses on manipulating, transforming and exploring space across a spectrum of interior architecture and interior design, allowing you to explore the broad range of three and two-dimensional possibilities within this diverse sector-driven discipline.
This industry-aligned course offers you the opportunity to study and practise the adaption and re-use of space within existing buildings, while also addressing aesthetics, human needs, materiality, as well as the ephemeral qualities of atmosphere, character, colour, light and experience.
You will have the opportunity to learn alongside experienced designers, working in an inclusive setting within the School. We provide a cross-disciplinary environment, with enviable industry connections, and access to a very broad range of individual specialisms, on-trend advice, and advances in technology.
You will develop highly transferable marketable skills, and become a confident, industry ready, and employable graduate in interior architecture and design.
Programme structure
In the first year, you will gain invaluable skills in drawing, model-making and concept modelling in our industry-standard studios and workshops.
Taught by experienced practising designers, our interior design course mixes practice with theory, so you can create links between concepts and materials while strengthening your design skills across key industry sectors.
Computer simulation and design is covered by using software such as the Adobe Design Suite, VectorWorks and other 3D rendering tools.
The flavour of your second year is all about creativity and employability. You’ll have the opportunity of internships and live project work, giving you excellent industry connections and experience.
You’ll learn about design and its application while enjoying study trips, the chance of overseas study, international design competitions, and working with clients on real world industry projects.
In your third year you’ll have the opportunity to showcase the skills you have obtained throughout this degree course by embarking on an in-depth design project in an area of personal interest to you, combined with an opportunity to exhibit at our graduate show. Emerging as a design aware and employable graduate.
Career opportunities
Due to the nature of our programme, career progression can provide our graduates with the strong transferrable skills to broaden their employment opportunities within 3D Design Specialisms, including progressing onto careers as Teaching, Visual Merchandising, Design Editorial, Freelance Designer/Maker, CAD Technician, Buyers, Stylists, Product Design innovators, Sales and Marketing, Events Promotion, Cabinet Makers, Model Makers, Design Managers, Project Runners. Graduates also have the opportunity to participate in Graduate training programmes, as a Designer in Residence or participate in an international exchanger opportunity.
