Overview

The BSc (Hons) International Security and Risk Management course will prepare you for a career protecting people, societies and resources from risks and security threats.

You will learn how to mitigate risk using contemporary intelligence and security theories. You’ll also gain the skills to obtain and analyse intelligence from reliable sources to influence investigations.

Your studies will combine the theory and practice of international security and risk management. You’ll learn about intelligence gathering and analysis, modern day policing, terrorism and counter-terrorism, geopolitics, and cyber security. You’ll also able to distinguish between police-led intelligence activities and those of the intelligence and security agencies.

You’ll gain practical skills through simulations based on real-life scenarios, working in our Hydra Simulation Centre, Crime Scene Training Facility and Moot Court.

Career opportunities

The BSc (Hons) International Security and Risk Management will appeal to those who are interested in learning about interviewing techniques and covert operations together with investigation management techniques. Such skills are sought after by a range of organisations in the public and private sector.

At the end of the international security course, students will acquire a thorough knowledge of different aspects of security and risk management and can forge exciting careers in law-enforcement, intelligence and security agencies; investigative journalism; civil service and private security businesses.
