Overview
The BA in English and Drama at St Mary’s provides the best of an education in English Literature with opportunities to develop your knowledge of performance in theory and practice.
Unlike like most degrees in these two subjects, this is a ‘Single Honours’ programme, meaning that it has been designed from the ground up so that the two disciplines – English Literature and Drama – feed off each other in creative and practical ways.
In your English and Drama degree at St Mary’s you will learn about contemporary fiction and theatre, develop your understanding of international literature and theatre and have a sound historical understanding of the origins of modern literature and drama.
The programme is particularly aimed at applicants interested in dramatic and non-dramatic literature, who are not yet willing to commit to a full ‘conservatoire’ training in drama, with a possible eye to working in education and the creative industries.
Career opportunities
English and Drama graduates from St Mary’s have gone on to successful careers in a variety of fields such as publishing, charity work, writing for TV, such as EastEnders as well as HR, teaching, PR and businesses that value critical thinking skills.
Students also go on to study at postgraduate level for master’s degrees and PhDs.
