Overview

One of the largest and most influential markets in the world today, the construction industry is projected to grow from US$8.5 trillion in 2015 to US$10.3 trillion in 2020. In the UK alone, it contributed £103 billion in economic output in 2014 and accounted for 6% – or 2.1 million – of all jobs.
Accompanying this growth is the commensurate demand for construction management, with professional input required at all stages of building work – from concept to detailed design, construction and maintenance. This course, which is currently accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), aims to prepare you to work towards chartered status and roles in construction management wherever in the world you choose.

Ranked 4th in the UK for Building and Town and Country Planning in the Guardian University Guide 2020, Coventry University has been educating construction professionals for over half a century, keeping in step with the changing needs of technological advancement and the growing importance of its social and environmental. The strong links with other undergraduate courses in the school creates a rounded and multi-disciplinary experience for our construction management students, preparing them well for working in a modern construction industry.

Career opportunities

The complexity and scale of modern construction projects requires construction professionals with expertise in construction management, who can work either on site or within an office to ensure they are delivered safely, within budget, on deadline and to the highest possible quality.

This course is designed to prepare you for employment managing the construction of building projects at home and abroad, for large multinational companies or regional businesses. You could find yourself working as a Contracts Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager or Engineer. Construction managers have the option of aiming for self-employment, or Working for large or small, regional, National or international firms that can range in work from domestic housing up to multi-million pound internationally renowned projects, and ranging from new build to refurbishment; the world of Construction Manager is varied, interesting and exciting.

When you are ready to find permanent employment, you will also receive support from our faculty’s employability and placements unit EEC Futures, which won the ‘Best Placement Service in the UK’ award at the National Undergraduate Employability Awards in 2015 and 2016.
