Successful applicants are generally those with the strongest portfolios. For guidance on what to include in your portfolio, watch our portfolio advice video Applicants demonstrating commitment to and knowledge of the subject on their application form are invited to a selection session where they will be required to present a collection of their creative work to demonstrate a good practical ability in and understanding of their chosen field. The selection session will provide applicants with an opportunity to demonstrate their communication, interaction and analytical skills You should bring a portfolio of your creative work to the interview. The emphasis is on quality rather than quantity. You should be able to show evidence of drawing and staff will be looking for quality of ideas and evidence of creativity. It is essential to include sketch and ideas books. The programme is looking for ‘makers’ who are prepared to work independently and who are self-motivated. Interviews typically take place between November and March, according to when you apply. |

Overview
BA(Hons) Interior Design teaches you the skills you need to take up employment in the interior design industry.
You’ll be based at Bower Ashton Studios, part of the City Campus. Exceptional facilities and resources include industry standard digital studios and fabrication workshops.
This is a technical learning programme, with a focus on lighting, heating, ventilation and acoustics. You’ll work with traditional tools and the latest technology and examine the principles underlying space, detailing, finish, craft and digital processes. Develop the conceptual ability and technical skills to design for bespoke one-off projects and industrial production.
Learn to view spaces differently and seek new design opportunities within them. Build the skills base to transform your vision from concept to reality with a real understanding in materials, details and design theory.
Attend regular guest lectures and events to help you explore employment opportunities. Past speakers include Arup Lighting, Wylde IA, Amarelle, 2 Feet Below and SJP Interiors, with technical demonstrations provided by industry suppliers such as Corian, Egger, Vescom, Abet Laminati and Altro Flooring.
Develop your own independent projects and follow live briefs set and assessed by professionals in the field. Take on work experience and placements throughout the degree, including international exchange.
Our City Campus is a creative powerhouse. It spans across Bristol and is made up of Bower Ashton and renowned contemporary arts centres Spike Island, Arnolfini and Watershed.
Our strong industry links within Bristol and beyond ensure ongoing input from individual designers and established design companies.
Career opportunities
The course provides excellent preparation for a career in commercial and domestic interiors, retail, leisure, and exhibition design. You could also choose to specialise in furniture, product or lighting design.
Some graduates go on to set up their own freelance design businesses.
