Overview
Over 30 years ago the University of Surrey was the first university to set up an academic dance department. Since then, we have continued to build on our reputation as an internationally leading centre for dance practice and research. Our unique degree gives you the opportunity to experience diverse dance practices and to interrogate dance in a contemporary globalised culture.
On our rich Dance programme you will train in a broad range of contemporary dance practices and gain exciting insight into dance histories and contexts. Our students work as dancers, choreographers, teachers, researchers, managers and leaders and are much sought after by the dance industry. Our unique approach rejects the artificial separation of ‘practice’ and ‘theory’, and develops your understanding of dance as a diverse and dynamic cultural practice. You will be given vital knowledge and competence for a professional career in dance, benefitting from both the heritage of the University of Surrey as well as being part of the dynamic dance community at Guildford School of Acting. We offer a fully integrated course and welcome differently-abled bodies.
