Overview

The BA in Digital Media and Society focuses on the implications of our increasingly digitised world for society and for the people in it. You’ll develop your understanding of the relationship between digital media and society; use innovative digital methods to carry out social research; and learn to make and shape digital media products.

You’ll have the opportunity to study modules from across the Faculty of Social Sciences, allowing you to think about digital media in contexts like education, journalism and marketing.

In the final year of your degree you’ll do a placement, where you’ll have the opportunity to enhance your skills and employability through hands-on experience of the workplace.

You could find yourself working in the digital media industry or in a digital communications department of a museum, local authority, charity or enterprise. You’ll be fully supported by us in setting up the right work placement for you – members of our staff team and the University Careers Service have strong links with organisations across the city and in the broader region.

Career opportunities

Our graduates are skilled researchers and creative problem solvers. They work in broadcasting, the police service, teaching and social work and are also employed in local government, the civil service, charity and campaign organisations, and market research. Their highly developed social and cultural awareness is a valuable asset in any sector.
