High-value manufacturing companies all over the world need well qualified specialists with the equivalent of an MEng degree in Materials Science and Engineering.

High-value materials are vital across all sectors, including transport, energy, renewables, healthcare, food production, and construction.

Through specific aerospace and advanced metallic materials options, you’ll be equipped with all the technical skills and personal qualities necessary for a high-level career in the advanced manufacturing industry.

This course will suit students from a physics or chemistry background, looking to transition into a career in engineering.

It will equip you with a skill set equivalent to that of an MEng graduate in Materials Science and Engineering.

Programme structure

Core modules

You’ll take 95 credits of core taught modules:

Metallurgical processing
Advanced Materials Manufacturing – Part I
Deformation, fracture and fatigue
Introduction to Finite Element Modelling
Technical Skills Development
Heat and Materials with Application

Industrial Training Programme (ITP)

You’ll have the option to take one of our innovative Industrial Training Programmes (ITP), which provides direct contact with CEOs and managing directors from industry.

Choose your own career pathway

You’ll complete a further 25 credits of taught material focused on either aerospace materials or advanced metals.

Design and Manufacture of Composites

All students then carry out a piece of original research, worth 60 credits, on advanced materials.
