On Northumbria’s hands-on digital forensics course, you will be taught to locate and analyse evidence and conduct digital forensic investigations to the highest standard. Using the same software as professionals, you will work in our specialist computer forensics and security laboratories, with support from our highly experienced staff and industry experts.
From day one, you will learn how to conduct investigations, undertake research to solve problems and write reports about your findings and present evidence in a court of law, all essential for a career as a digital forensics specialist. You will develop computing applications for varied discipline specific problem domains, plan and manage the development and use of computing systems and will be encouraged to work both individually and as part of a team.
This course has been accreditedby BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.
Your course in brief
This year introduces core computer topics such as programming, computer security and forensics networking web technologies and the fundamentals of operating systems.
Students will increase their understanding of computer and digital forensics by studying topics such as web programming, applied programming and advanced operating systems.
You will go out on industrial placement to put the skills you have learned in the previous modules into professional practice or have an opportunity to study abroad at one of our partner institutions.
This year includes a large-scale individualised project focusing on a pathway chosen by the student, where they will design, analyse, develop and evaluate their work.
This course is the established route for those interested in taking their enthusiasm for identifying, analysing, designing and solving a variety of computing problems to degree level and beyond.
Our Computer and Digital Forensics course puts you in excellent stead for a host of exciting career paths. High performing students will be given an opportunity to transfer onto MComp Computer and Digital Forensics, our integrated masters programme. Upon graduating, you will be highly skilled and professional in developing and managing computing solutions.
You will graduate with the digital forensic skills and computing fundamentals you need to enter a wide range of careers including in law enforcement, government, multinational corporations, specialist digital forensic companies, IT support, software development and telecommunications.
