Our ‘Business With’ courses develop broad business skills and also offer a specialist pathway that starts after the first year, giving you an extra edge in employability.
BA (Hons) Business with Human Resource Management includes modules that cover the development of human resources (HR), law for HR, cross-cultural HR, and compensation and diversity.
HR is a core business enabler for all kinds of organisations. HR professionals are involved in recruitment, talent management, employee relations, salaries and incentives. They also develop their organisations’ cultures and capabilities in response to new challenges.
The course is covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School, which was ‘Business School of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2015. We’re also undergoing a full re-accreditation process with EPAS who require some of the highest levels of relevance, rigour and internationalisation.
Between your second and final years you can choose to undertake a work placement, study abroad or a hybrid of the two and in contrast to BA (Hons) Human Resource Management, it’s not compulsory. All of the Business with courses are 3-year degrees with an optional 4th year between the second and final taught years. Students who do not take this option will be expected to undertake a final year UG Consultancy Project rather than the dissertation. In doing this, they are then graduating having followed a “real—world” experience as part of their undergraduate studies.
By the end of this course you’ll be in an excellent position to apply for graduate training schemes and other graduate roles. Previous graduates have gone on to work in the HR departments of companies such as Nestlé, 3M and Carillion.
If you decide to start your own business, it’s good to know that the combined turnover of our graduates’ start-up companies is higher than that of any other UK university.
You could also undertake further study that builds on the internationalised grounding in business and HR that you’ll have gained. We offer postgraduate degrees like International Human Resource Management MSc.
Whatever you decide to do, you’ll have strong employability as a result of having acquired the characteristics of a Northumbria graduate. These include critical reflection and self-learning, collaboration and curiosity, and the ability to apply your knowledge to solve problems in ways that are sustainable and ethical.
We are currently NOT ACCEPTING applications from NON-EU countries, except Georgia and Serbia.
