Overview
In choosing to study this History and Media Degree (VP13) at Aberystwyth you’ll immerse yourself not just in a huge choice of history, but also an understanding of how and why the world has evolved the way it has. In addition you’ll cover the core modules for Media, resulting in a great combination. This course is student-focused and you’ll be able to build on your existing knowledge of history whilst pursuing what fundamentally interests you. Our History Degree graduates are sought by employers for their highly developed research, analysis, teamwork and communications abilities.
The innovative History and Media Degree scheme is designed for students who wish to pursue and develop their interests in both history and media studies. Its flexible structure, and teaching across the two departments of History and Welsh History and Theatre, Film and Television Studies, offers you the opportunity to study each subject independently and within an interdisciplinary context. This will develop both your historical knowledge and your practical and theoretical understanding of mass media.
Career opportunities
Many graduates from these two departments have gone into careers that are directly related to their degree subject – such as teaching, research, working in an archive or museum, or working in the media in careers such as researching, producing, editing or directing for organisations including the BBC, Talkback Productions and S4C. Many other graduates have gone into diverse careers including accountancy, banking, marketing, public relations, the computer industry, local government, the police force and social work. Students of History and Media develop transferable skills – such as independent analytical thought, research, teamwork and written and oral communication skills – that are attractive to employers in a variety of fields. This gives our graduates great flexibility in their choice of career.
