In choosing to study this Education with History degree you’ll cover a broad spectrum of childhood development activities that include the sociological, psychological and educational facets that influence the development of children alongside the essential History syllabus. You’ll be taught by enthusiastic staff and cover a range of practical, theoretical and professional disciplines that employers in this discipline demand. Your skills and abilities will be enhanced with regular exposure to team-work, communications, interpersonal, and time and work management opportunities.

The BA in Education with History degree will expose you to the fascinating sweep of history from ancient times to the present day and the latest theory and best practice guidelines for the modern classroom.

This course is perfect for aspiring teachers, tutors and lecturers with a particular interest in history.

The course has a major/minor structure, meaning you will spend two-thirds of your time tackling topics such as child development and the psychology of learning and may also study bilingual education, children’s rights and Special Educational Needs. You will spend one-third of your time on core History modules, also choosing from a variety of modules covering Welsh, British and World history.

Career opportunities

Your BA in Education with History will prepare you for teaching and a broad range of employment or training options. Your knowledge of education may help you to establish a career as a community education officer, education administrator, lecturer, special educational needs teacher or youth worker. Your historical expertise will help you in a career as an academic librarian, archivist, heritage manager, or museum conservator. The degree will also enable you to apply for Primary or Early Years PGCE courses.

Recent statistics from HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency) show that over 82% of History graduates and over 88% of Education graduates find either paid employment or continue with further study upon graduation.
