Aberystwyth University’s Drama & Theatre Studies and Fine Art Degree is an interdisciplinary degree scheme combining the visual and performing arts. Aberystwyth is the only university in the UK to offer this particular programme of study at degree level. The Drama & Theatre Studies and Fine Art Degree draws upon the talents of two leading and highly successful departments: the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies, one of the UK’s pre-eminent departments in its field; and the School of Art, which is at the vanguard of contemporary art education. The Drama & Theatre Studies and Fine Art Degree balances academic theory with practical work, and allows you to develop and hone your artistic practice in a wide range of media. You will also be exposed to, and engage with, key industry partners that include the BBC, S4C, and the Arts Council for Wales and several others. Throughout your Drama & Theatre Studies and Fine Art Degree you will develop the core competences, capabilities, skills and attributes to prepare you for future employability.
The Drama & Theatre Studies and Fine Art degree has been carefully designed to ensure an integrated academic experience that will enrich and inform the development of your creative, critical and technical skills. You will explore dramatic history, theory, art and performance in a range of contexts and settings, and you will have the chance to work with leading practitioners and professional artists. Aberystwyth is the only university in the UK to offer this particular joint honours BA programme, and we are committed to providing you with an integrated scheme of study, combining creative and critical approaches to our disciplines through innovative practical work and challenging scholarly enquiry.
A degree in Drama & Theatre Studies and Fine Art will prepare you for careers working with theatre companies, film and television, and community drama, or as a professional artist, photographer or printmaker, graphic designer, fashion and textile designer, illustrator, museum and art gallery curator, researcher, conservation officer, art therapist, or in the media. Other career options include Arts and literary management, teaching (following a PGCE), public relations, personnel, and management. You may choose to pursue postgraduate study or a career in research or academia.
