Overview

Forensic scientists utilise skills from a wide range of academic disciplines. This programme’s regular laboratory sessions, practical scenarios in our mock crime scenes and lectures from experts in their field give an insight into the fascinating world of present day forensic science.

Programme structure

Year 1
Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

Fundamental Biology and Physiology (30 credits)
Practical and Professional Skills – Life Science (15 credits)
Basic Chemistry for Life Science (15 credits)
Introduction to Forensic Science (15 credits)
Practical and Professional Skills (15 credits)
Foundations of Criminology (30 credits)

Year 2
Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

Research and Professional Skills (15 credits)
Intermediate Forensic Science (30 credits)
Instrumental Analysis (15 credits)
Skills in Crime Scene Examination, Evidence Recovery and Law (15 credits)
Forensic Geoscience (15 credits)
Criminological Perspectives (30 credits)

Year 3
Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

Project (Chemical Sciences) (30 credits)
Advanced Topics in Forensic Science (15 credits)
Planning for Personal and Professional Development (15 credits)

Students are required to choose 30 credits from this list of options.
