Overview
This Landscape Institute accredited BA Hons Landscape Architecture programme is the first exciting step in a professional career in landscape architecture. It is the only BA Hons Landscape Architecture programme in London. Students enjoy close relationships with leading landscape architecture practices and proximity to world-famous parks, buildings, gardens.
Students explore a diverse range of approaches to the design of landscapes, such as green roofs, living walls, courtyards, public spaces, parks, squares, waterfronts, urban masterplans and regional strategies.
The programme centres on the design studio where students are introduced to innovative approaches in landscape architecture and encouraged to develop design speculations for future landscapes and cities. Visits to London’s art galleries (Tate Modern, ICA), museums (British Museum) and important landscapes (Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Kew Gardens, Royal Park Greenwich) as well as lectures by leading international designers are part of the degree.
Students are encouraged to attend field-study courses abroad (recent visits have included New York and Istanbul) which inform their design projects. The design studio is supported by studies in the history and theory of landscape, urban ecology, conservation, horticulture, construction, visual representation, drawing skills and digital communication. Details of international events, open lectures and examples of student portfolios can be found on the collective blog written by the landscape architecture and urbanism staff and students, The Landscape.
The programme is based in the Department of Architecture and Landscape in a new state of the art building designed. It is equipped with fourteen green roofs, aquaponics lab, digital workshops, model workshop, photography suite, film studios and animation suites. The building also includes extensive design studios, a world-class library and two gallery spaces. The building is located in the heart of Greenwich, the newest addition to a suite of magnificent buildings that occupy the UNESCO World Heritage site and the location of the Greenwich Prime Meridian.
