Overview
You will be prepared for life as a professional artist in the exciting and expanding field of international contemporary art by gaining confidence in your own ideas and abilities and developing independent, critical positions in relation to your practice and contemporary art in general.
You can also use the programme as a basis to continue your interest into postgraduate study.
You will benefit from a highly-flexible studio and learning environment. Fine Art encompasses opportunities to develop your practice across the full range of media available today including; painting, print making, video, photography, (digital and analogue), web projects, sculpture, installation, site specific and time-based art.
Fine Art will continuously engage you in on-going critiques of your work and ideas through individual tutorials, critique groups and presentation seminars. These will encourage you to challenge yourself and others in constructive and supportive environments.
Studio-based teaching and projects are supported by lectures in art history and contemporary theory, and are in addition to weekly open lectures from leading figures in contemporary art and culture. Teaching staff are all practising contemporary artists, curators and writers and recent visiting lecturers have included Brian Catling, Brian Eno, Paul Morley, Hayley Newman, Siobhan Hapaska, Dan Hays and Anna Lucas.

purpose-built studios including specialist painting, sculpture, printmaking and flexible project spaces
extensive resources in new media, photography, digital printing, time-based media and computing
exhibition and professional practice opportunities delivered by practising curators and artists

Fine Art programme offers a thorough preparation for life as a professional artist and for employment opportunities in the art world and beyond. Many graduates go on to pursue careers in freelance art and design, curating, gallery/arts education, arts journalism or go on to further study to PhD level.
