Overview

The first two years of this degree are common with the MEng Mechanical Engineering (H301), followed by specialisation in years three and four through a range of subject themes. Specialist and compulsory modules cover Fundamentals of vehicle design, Vehicle dynamics, Structural design, Automotive propulsion, Engine tribology, Automotive electronics and control, Racecar Aerodynamics, Materials for transport applications and Advanced Management. In the third and fourth years you will participate in individual and group projects, which includes the option of participating in the Formula Student group design project. Programme structure

Years 1 and 2 are compulsory for all Mechanical Engineering themes and provide sound preparation for the final part of the degree.

In Year 3, you will have the opportunity to specialise taking modules designed for your theme. You will also undertake an individual project that usually takes the form of a design or research exercise, and involves the production of a formal report.

In Year 4, MEng students participate in a Group Design Project (GDP). These projects are often linked to current research activities or topics that have practical relevance to industry and represent a significant part of your Mechanical Engineering masters studies.

Graduates of Mechanical Engineering programme are in high demand among employers from the private and public sector, and have entered careers including: graduate mechanical engineer, Royal Naval officer, associate (chartered accountant), helicopter engineer, applications engineer, consultant, graduate design engineer, research consultant, associate (management consultant), and development engineer.
