Overview

The Business Studies programme is a multi-disciplinary course of study. You will be taught a full range of business disciplines including marketing, finance, human resource management, and information technology. In addition you will have the opportunity to explore some of these areas in more depth, or branch out further into option areas such as tourism management, small business enterprise and green issues, amongst others.
We place great significance on providing a learning experience that assists your understanding of business practice and the context in which it takes place. Importantly, we recognise the need to assist our students in gaining the competitive advantage and confidence to succeed in the employment market. Students that study on the course come from a rich mix of backgrounds. Many join us straight from school or college, others are returning to study having already gained experience in the work place. In addition, we have part-time students who are combining study with full-time work. The range of student backgrounds and experience helps to provide a useful ‘melting pot’ for the discussion, examination and study of the various subject areas explored within the programme.

Our degree has a vocational focus. The Business Studies undergraduate degree programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding that meets the needs of today’s employers. A significant focus is placed upon providing a learning experience that is directly relevant to the business perspective. The varying assessment formats and the emphasis upon work based learning reinforce this aspect of our approach to Business Studies. The Business Studies programme is designed to enable graduates to play a full and immediate role within a dynamic business environment on completion of their studies.

What makes the Business Studies degree at the University of Chichester different?

Instead of large traditional lectures, modules are taught in small group workshop sessions. Each workshop is about 2.5 hours and involves approximately 20-22 students.
The team places great emphasis on the personal development of students within a supportive environment. This enables students to master challenges and achieve goals.
The programme has a strong vocational focus which is underpinned with authentic assessment tasks and project based learning.
Students are given opportunities to undertake projects for external organisations and businesses.
Course Content

The Business Studies course has been designed to be as flexible as possible. Students can study the subject area as a Single (100%), Major (75%), Joint (50%) and Minor (25%) Honours course.

Work placement is an important element of the Business and Management programmes. Students have the option of taking a year long placement in between the second and third year or taking a ten week placement at the end of the third year.
