Accredited by The British Computer Society and the Institution of
Engineering and Technology

This course provides a broad technical education in the hardware and
software aspects of computer systems engineering and applications

If you choose this course you will benefit from:

  • Accreditation from the British Computer Society (BCS) and the
Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
  • State-of-the-art facilities in the Faculty’s new Engineering and
    Computing building
  • Placement companies such as the National Grid, GlaxoSmithKline,
Severn Trent Water and Mercedes Benz through our professional training
  • Collaborative links with universities in 20 countries around the
world, affording the chance for you to spend part of your studies
  • An annual programme of extracurricular lectures on engineering and
computing topics presented by the Institution of Engineering and
Technology (IET) and the British Computer Society (BCS).

I have finally learned how to craft a functional gadget simply by
combining programming to hardware; a rewarding experience and a
valuable course.

The first year is designed to allow students from a diverse range of
backgrounds to make a solid start on the course. Computer Architecture
and Networks looks at the building blocks of computers and how they
communicate. Electrical Engineering covers essential electrical
circuits and power systems topics to give you the ability to power
large computer systems reliably and efficiently.

The second year introduces you to the study of engineering
management, which covers the business organisation, finances, contract
law, health and safety and human resources issues that you will
encounter while working in commercial engineering. The course
continues to cover programming and operating systems, together with
electronics and computer networks.

In your final year you will continue your studies in software and
electronics but with a focus on an individual project in which you
will perform a detailed research or design study with the help of an
experienced supervisor into a technical aspect from the course.
