Overview

Designed to equip those working within or intending to join the internal audit profession with the conceptual understanding, knowledge and skills to contribute positively to the organisations that they work for, our Internal Audit Management and Consultancy course will help to develop you into a director, manager or consultant in today’s challenging but rewarding audit sector.

Close ties with the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors UK & Ireland (IIA UKI) and accreditation from the Internal Auditing Educators Partnership program from the IIA Inc. ensures our course is fresh and relevant.

Our course is designed to enhance your skills and train you to become a qualified internal auditor, manager and head of department. Past graduates have gone on to work with high-profile organisations, including Cancer Research UK, the Department of Work and Pensions and Royal Bank of Scotland.

With the drive across the globe for integrated reporting to increase transparency, increased regulation such as the introduction of the Sarbanes Oxley Act in the US, and the general publics access to real time information, boards and their audit committees are ever more in need of independent and objective assurance and internal audit has a vital role to play in providing this.

This course covers not just the operational aspects of internal auditing, but also the strategic and tactical. It considers internal audit’s role in many key risk areas that organisations face, such as ethics, CSR and sustainability, and examines how internal audit can influence an organisation and be a catalyst for change. It also looks at innovation within an organisation and specifically for internal audit, and you will have the opportunity to complete a research project of your choice relating to the field.

We encourage your communication and confidence with active learning methods, such as group work, seminars, debates and quizzes. The assessments are designed to mirror an internal auditor’s working life as far as possible, and many students comment on how this has helped them improve their skills at work.

Career opportunities

Many of our students are already employed and are sponsored through their study. Typical organisations that they come from include local authorities, health sector, central government and government agencies, financial services, charity organisations such as the Big Lottery and professional service firms such as Deloitte, PWC, Grant Thornton and BDO.

Many of our students work in internal audit or a similar role such as compliance or financial control. Some are deliberately sponsored by their employer for this course so that on their return they can set up an internal audit function or apply the concepts to their existing department.
