Overview

Steel structures are widespread in the UK and increasingly popular around the world.

This specialisation prepares you for a structural engineering career in a vast international construction market.

It’s an intensive blend of lectures, lab work, site visits and design projects. The course tutors are researchers who work closely with industry to push the boundaries of structural design.

Over the summer, you’ll work on your own research dissertation. This might include lab work, field studies, modelling or all three. Some students work with an industry partner. Others link their dissertation to a research project in the department.

All our structures-based courses are accredited by The Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and Institute of Highway Engineers as satisfying part 2 academic base requirements for a Chartered Engineer under UK-SPEC.
