Programme structure

First Year: You will study aerospace technology and industry, engineering mathematics, engineering applications of mathematics, materials and electrical science, mechanical science, introduction to manufacturing technology, career skills development, introduction to design, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
Second Year: You will study aerothermodynamics, aerospace design, further engineering mathematics, computer-aided engineering, structural mechanics, dynamics and data acquisition and control systems, project management and product development.
Work placement year: You have the option of taking an integrated one-year professional placement during your Aerospace Engineering course.
Fourth Year (Final Year for BEng): You will study aerospace performance, propulsion and design, stability and control of aircraft, aerodynamics, mechanics and properties of materials, aerospace structural design and analysis, and an individual major project.

Career opportunities

Careers
Graduate employment opportunities are excellent whether you are interested in the civilian or defence side of the aerospace industry. Some students return from industrial placements with sponsorships and job offers. Past graduates have been employed on major projects such as the Airbus A380 or the Typhoon (EFA), or in the development of missile systems, satellites and space vehicles.

Work Placement
You have the opportunity to spend a year working either in a professional research environment or within industry. The practical experience you gain will be of tremendous benefit both when you resume your studies and when you embark on a career. Students have previously undertaken placements in organisations such as:
Airbus, MBDA Lockheed Martin, Virgin Atlantic Engineering, Marshall Aerospace, BAE Systems, Rolls Royce plc, Numerous small companies.
