This course is designed to develop the skills and knowledge required for you to become an Accountant. The opportunity to include a work placement year as part of your study will allow you to gain specialised experience of the industry, as well as providing you with an invaluable insight into the world of work.
Further specialisation in your final year builds upon your knowledge gained in your first two years of study, combined with the skills developed in your placement year, to enable you to be fully prepared to begin a career in Accounting.
With exemptions from the professional examinations of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and the option to take a one year work placement, this programme will give you the edge in the job market.
You can choose to combine your study of Accounting with studying one of six languages: French, German, Italian, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese.
Speaking a second language as well as having a business qualification will give you a competitive edge when job hunting.

During your first year you will learn ‘The Principles of Accounting and Finance’ and develop an understanding of basic ‘Economics for Business’. During your Second and Final year will encounter a deeper understanding of the accounting basics, and not only develop student knowledge of accounting but introduce finance basics. During your third year you can also choose to undertake a work placement year putting the knowledge learnt from Years 1 and 2 into practice. This opportunity can enhance your employability skills and make your CV more desirable.

As with all courses at the Business School students have the opportunity to complete a work placement, which will usually last for one year. During this time you will be employed by the company and will subsequently be paid; for students on placement is appromimately £16,000.
