The MSc Finance programme has been designed to provide a solid foundation in Finance and Empirical Finance. The course fully integrates theory and practise and provides the opportunity to take a number of specialist modules to focus learning on a particular area of finance. Companies are looking for a combination of high-level interpersonal skills, in-depth knowledge and analytical skills to enable them to succeed in a rapidly changing and highly complex environment and this programme has been designed with those expectations in mind.

The programme provides knowledge of financial markets, corporate finance and complex financial products such as derivatives as well as a comprehensive understanding of how markets work and how firms can create value. In combination with this is an ability to use, and to reflect critically upon the use of, models and formal processes within the finance and financial management.

Programme structure

Significant features of this new programme are:

The Dissertation which is an individual project, undertaken in the summer term, and often linked to current staff research interests; A flexible programme structure with choice; it offers considerable flexibility, and routes are available to transfer between themes, or to follow a generic un-themed programme. Most optional modules, and some compulsory modules, derive from the research activities of the lecturers concerned.

Group and team working are a key component of the program. A number of the compulsory and optional modules require students to undertake group-work assignments.
