Overview

This exciting programme concentrates on the skills and techniques associated with the specialist area of advertising and marketing communications. The focus is on preparing students for employment in management positions in advertising and public relations agencies, as well as marketing positions within blue-chip companies.

Though a specialist degree, the programme offers a range of generic marketing skills, such as analysis and strategy formulation and implementation, as well as people management, useful for any marketing related role within a company. The outcome of your study will be the ability to analyse target audiences and implement integrated marketing communications campaigns.

Students have the option to complete a placement year and to participate in the Erasmus overseas exchange programme. This Erasmus Scheme provides a grant towards the cost of studying aboard for a year.

The aims of the programme are:

To help students develop an in-depth knowledge of advertising and communications theory and how this is applied in practice
To prepare students for the world of work by providing them with employable and transferable skills.

Programme structure

Year 1

Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

Personal and Professional Development 1 (The Marketer) (30 credits)
Principles and Practice of Marketing (30 credits)
Introduction to Advertising (15 credits)
Financial Aspects of Marketing (15 credits)
Public Relations: From Concepts to Practice (30 credits)

Year 2

Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

Research Methods (MET) (15 credits)
Customer Insight and Research (30 credits)
Strategic Brand Management (15 credits)
Personal & Professional Development 2 (PPD2): The Marketer in Context (15 credits)
Integrated Marketing Communications (30 credits)
Media Planning and Buying (15 credits)
Placement Preparation (Business School)

Year 3

Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

Contemporary Issues in Advertising and Marketing Communications (15 credits)
Social Marketing (15 credits)
Direct, Interactive and Digital Marketing (30 credits)
Integrated Advertising Planning and Campaign Management (15 credits)
Leading Innovation and Creativity (15 credits)
Students are required to choose 30 credits from this list of options.

Thematic Independent Studies (30 credits)
Dissertation (MET) (30 credits)
