An undergraduate degree (level 6) from a UK university or equivalent institution or an Early Years foundation degree (level 5).
This programme is a one-year ‘top-up’ qualification for foundation degree graduates and honours graduates of other disciplines who wish to retrain in the early years sector.
The programme will develop your ability to successfully lead practice across the Early Years Foundation Stage, to support and mentor colleagues and to raise standards in multi-agency settings.
This programme will also develop your understanding of the need to encourage children’s physical, intellectual, social and emotional development in partnership with families in a context that values children’s rights and encourages practices of equality and inclusion.
The aims of the programme are:
To prepare you to model the skills and behaviours required to safeguard and promote high-quality outcomes for young children

To prepare you for the changing context of early years and to be effective leaders who are visionary and capable of being “agents for change” in the workplace.
Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.
Child Development and Learning: Birth to Five Years (30 credits)
Leading and Managing in Early Years (30 credits)
Curriculum and Assessment in Early Years: Workplace Project (30 credits)
Keeping Children Safe from Harm (15 credits)
Students are required to choose 1 course from this list of options.
Mentor Preparation for the Children’s Workforce (15 credits)
Comparative International Social Policy – Without Study Visit (15 credits)
Graduates have opportunities in early years settings, including nurseries, children’s centres, health and social care and community settings and schools. Students who wish to pursue a career in primary teaching after graduating will need to follow this degree with a PGCE primary programme (such as the PGCE Primary Education).
