Automation Engineering is an inter-disciplinary field focusing on the automation of industrial processes.
The breadth of study and many areas of application lead to a career with international prospects
involving systematic approaches and teamwork. Technical and engineering subjects are taught
alongside Social Skills, English and relevant aspects of Business Economics.
Students specialise in one of three branches of study in Semesters 5-6: Plant Automation, Industrial IT
or Intelligent Sensor & Systems and receive professional advice when making this choice. It is also possible
to gain an insight into courses in other degree programmes in Wels by exchanging courses.
Fundamental engineering subjects such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics and IT alongside Social Skills and English are studied in Semesters 1 and 2.
From Semester 3 onwards specialisation in Plant Automation is inter-disciplinary in nature. Areas of emphasis are the automation of systems, communication and interaction between systems, systems interfaces with human beings and the execution of projects in teams. Alongside the relevant aspects of Business Economics and Social Skills, there are also courses in:
- Manufacturing, Mechanics, Design
- Control Technologies, Control Theory, Control Equipment, Electrical Engineering, Measuring
- Sensors and actuators
- Social Skills
Automated processes are ubiquitous in modern engineering and industry. Robots and fully-automated car production facilities are typical examples. Future experts in developing and realising automated plant and production processes choose this specialisation field.
Examples of future work for graduates in Plant Automation:
- planning and design of automated machines and plant components
- development of mechatronic systems
- parameterisation and programming of automation components
- research in the field of optimisation of automated processes
- management and leadership of automation projects
Emphasis is given on the operation and integration of components, working mainly in international teams.
