Merging creative thinking with strategic analysis, marketing is the vital connection between any organisation and its potential consumer-base. With more marketing platforms than ever before and boundless avenues for creative communication, good marketing skills have never been more in demand or more vital to an organisation’s success.

The University of Stirling’s Marketing course is ranked 2nd in Scotland and top 10 in the UK for the quality of our Marketing degree (The Complete University Guide 2019; 2020; 2021). This is thanks to their research-led teaching and close ties to industry. Understanding the need to prepare you for the rapidly-shifting landscape of marketing in a digital age of 24/7 connectivity, whilst still exploring the timeless truths that have always underpinned the discipline. You’ll experience how marketing works in a “live” environment, deepen your knowledge of what makes businesses tick, and sharpen your skills in research and communication.

They’ve developed a course that provides their graduates with a breadth of knowledge and practical experiences that can be applied to a wide range of sport related careers. You can choose from modules exploring four subject areas:

Sports Policy and Management
Physical Activity and Health
Development of Sport
Sport, Culture and Society

In addition, the extracurricular volunteering opportunities and Sport Union clubs enable you to earn qualifications and gain valuable sport management experience alongside your academic degree.

Career opportunities

Good Marketing courses open the door to a wealth of job opportunities, and a degree in Marketing is becoming increasingly valuable as the range of promotional outlets and techniques available to businesses continues to evolve. Marketing graduates from the University of Stirling have started their careers in some of the following roles:

Careers in the sport sector account for around three percent of all jobs in Scotland, according to a recent study by Cambridge Econometrics. A number of exciting opportunities for well-qualified students have arisen from the legacy of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup.

This is set to continue as Scotland hosts a number of future sporting events. Many graduates have gone on to work as:

sport development officers, working with sporting governing bodies to develop sport – both here in Scotland and abroad
managers of sport facilities in sport and leisure trusts across the UK
administrators for national governing bodies and sport policy agencies, such as sportscotland
sport officers working with charities in developing nations to use sport to build communities
personal trainers in health and fitness organisations
coaches working with development teams in a number of sports, such as football and rugby

This course is designed to enhance knowledge and understanding of sport across a range of academic disciplines, and prepares students for a variety of careers in sport.
