Film at Falmouth is the exciting by academic scholarship and starting point of your the demands of a vibrant professional life. This course is industry. constantly evolving, informed Immersed in the culture of cinema, you’ll build upon your interests through the analysis and production of film material and in specialist craft and theory modules which focus your skills, knowledge and critical thinking.

Final year major projects develop through the year under the supervision of a mentor, supplemented by a masterclass series, which guides your dissertation and enhances your practice. Film at Falmouth has established itself as a centre of micro-budget feature filmmaking, with students and graduates involved in Wilderness (Doherty, 2017). Bait (Jenkin, 2018), Songbird (Adams. 2018) and iFeatures-funded Make Up (Oakley, 2018).

Our visiting speaker programme has included directors Lenny Abrahamson (Room), Mo Ali (Montana), Andrea Arnold (American Honey). Ben Wheatley (Freefire. High Rise). Alice Lowe (Prevenge), Rachel Tunnard (Adult Life Skills), VFX Supervisor Frazer Churchill. camera operator Max Williams (Isle of Dogs), documentary filmmakers Don Letts and Kim Longinotto, and film critics Mark Kermode, Ryan Gilbey and Charles Gant.

Recent movies to feature Falmouth crew include Blade Runner 2049. Star Wars: Episode VIII, Jungle Book: Origins. Pan. The Mummy. Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass, The Man from UNCLE. The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and Belle.

Programme structure

*Year One *

In your first year you’ll be immersed in film culture – watching. writing, producing and directing – acquiring the core skills that underpin your experience at Falmouth. The focus of this first year is a lecture series centred on analysing and developing knowledge of film. coupled with a production series that nurtures skills in all facets of short film-making.

*Year Two *

In your second year you’ll build upon your own interests and passions through elective options. These focus your learning and your knowledge of cinema. in an environment that recognises and embraces the shifting nature of the medium. There’ll also be an opportunity to visit an international film festival (Berlinale and SxSW in Texas in 2014) to further your understanding of how the industry works, see the current trends in film form, style. theme and narrative. and network with experienced professionals.

A masterclass series with scholars and practitioners leads you into further specialization and self-determining projects in you’re dissertation and in your practice. You’ll progress your professional practice. with your work supported by Falmouth as your enter into international competitions and the development of your academic work in terms of publication beyond graduation.

Our entire focus in your final year is giving you the best possible opportunity for entry into your chosen sector of the film industry. The structure of the third year allows you to undertake work experience opportunities and internships and encourages engagement with industry and academic opportunities and events. with 14 years of success in helping our students find work or further study following graduation.
