Our ‘Business With’ courses develop broad business skills and also offer a specialist pathway that starts after the first year, giving you an extra edge in employability.
BA (Hons) Business with Financial Management includes modules that enable you to gain an understanding of financial markets and institutions, international finance and trade, and responsible financial management. By the end of the course you’ll have a theoretical understanding and analytical skills that will help you succeed in the competitive environment of finance and business.
Throughout the course there are opportunities for practical learning experiences and problem-solving. Between your second and final years we encourage you to undertake an optional year-long placement within a supportive work environment, or to extend your international experience by studying in another country.
In the final year you’ll either undertake a dissertation in an area of finance or do a consultancy project as part of a team, addressing a genuine need of a client. It’s all part of an internationalised grounding in business and financial management that will prepare you for a rewarding future.
The course is covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School, which was ‘Business School of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2015. We’re also undergoing a full re-accreditation process with EPAS who require some of the highest levels of relevance, rigour and internationalisation.
All of the Business with courses are 3-year degrees with an optional 4th year between the second and final taught years. This additional year can be spent undertaking a work placement, study abroad or a hybrid of the two. Students who do not take this option will be expected to undertake a final year UG Consultancy Project rather than the dissertation. In doing this, they are then graduating having followed a “real—world” experience as part of their undergraduate studies.
By the end of this course you’ll be in an excellent position to apply for graduate training schemes and graduate roles with organisations such as Barclays, NatWest, PWC and Ernst & Young. Thanks to the specialist modules – Financial Markets and Institutions, International Business Finance and Trade, International Finance and Responsible Financial Management, and Contemporary Corporate Reporting – you’ll have a particular edge in roles related to financial management.
If you decide to start your own business, it’s good to know that the combined turnover of our graduates’ start-up companies is higher than that of any other UK university.
You can also undertake further study at postgraduate level with a course such as our Business with Financial Management MSc or International Financial Management MSc.
Whatever you decide to do, you’ll enjoy the advantage of having studied a course that is covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School. Our ‘Business With’ courses are also accredited by EPAS for achievements that include academic rigour, practical relevance and internationalisation.
We are currently NOT ACCEPTING applications from NON-EU countries, except Georgia and Serbia.
