Overview

Education is much more than just learning your ABCs – it plays an essential role in society.

Our education studies degree offers you a flexible route to a challenging and rewarding career. It allows you to understand how people develop and learn over their lifetime. The degree incorporates a range of subject disciplines including psychology, philosophy, history and sociology.

Programme structure

Year 1
Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

Introduction to History and Philosophy of Education (30 credits)
The Psychology of Childhood (30 credits)
Introduction to Sociology and Education (30 credits)
Introduction to Social Enterprise and 3rd Sector (30 credits)

Year 2
Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

The Learner and the Learning Environment (30 credits)
The Foundations of Education in a Modern Society (30 credits)
Social Entrepreneurship: Making a Difference (30 credits)
The Impact of Research in Education in an Inclusive Society (30 credits)

Year 3
Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

Enquiry Project (30 credits)

Career opportunities

The graduates pursue careers in teaching (after completing a one-year PGCE qualification), youth services, social care, linguistics, the probation service, education administration, education research, community education, careers advice and learning mentorship.
